It seems that some people are unsure when the best time is to make their purchase. For me Summer has begun and others living in a warm climate at present wonder if it is the right time to make a purchase or not. There is only one deciding factor when it comes to deciding when to purchase a tumbling compost bin and that is:
Do you want to make compost?
If the answer is yes then now is the right time to begin. For some reason people seem to think that warm weather means they cannot produce compost. Maybe they are worried that the contents of the composting bin will get too dry and not work properly? This is easily resolved with a small addition of water if the organic contents of your tumbling bin seem a little dry. It is always a good idea to check the moisture levels whatever the time of year as this will ensure that you can make compost in record time. The contents should always be slightly moist, but never sodden.
Check a few times a week and it does not matter what the time of year is, you can make great compost. Just check the moisture level when you open the lid to add your materials to your urban compost tumbler.
There is no right or wrong time to buy a compost tumbler, if you want to make really high quality compost then now is the time to make a purchase. Don't let hot, or even cold, weather stop you. Each time of the year has its own benefits and inconveniences when it comes to making compost, just keep adding good quality organic matter and you will still have a very high quality compost in a very short space of time.
